I've decided to experiment with using Activesync 4.5.0 (build 5096) to send
my Word mobile documents from my HTC TyTN II (Windows Mobile 6 device) to my
desktop in rtf format. The problem is that AS 4.5 doesn't list docx files as
a file type it can convert. Instead something called 'Pocket Word Document'
with a psw extension is the 'word' format listed.

Can someone please advise how this works. TIA.

In a nutshell, it doesn't do what you want it to. The file converter is a
legacy plug-in for conveting .doc and .xls files on the desktop to the .pwd
and .pxl "Pocket" formats older (pre-WM5) devices used to use.

WM5 and WM6 save documents in "desktop" format, so these aren't converted
when synching.

To move .rtf douments to your PC, you'll have to save them as .rtf on the
device, then they'll sync to the PC as .rtf. Activesync doesn't really
function as a general purpose file converter.

That's not good news considering AS 4.5 comes with my Windows Mobile 6
device that doesn't even produce psw files (and unfortunately my desktop
Word is to old to handle docx files - hence RTF). Thanks anyway for the
reply Todd.

Is your desktop version of office older than Office 2000.... if not, why not
use the Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
2007 File Formats at

It's Office 2000 vintage so yes it looks like either this or Todd's
workaround should meet these needs. Choices choices...

Thank you both Mike and Todd for the ideas.
