I've been using Windows Desktop Search for a few months now. I recently
noticed that after I moved a folder full of my music to another directory,
desktop search shows me multiple entries for my mp3's. There is only one
valid link; the other ones are linked to the OLD location. This is my
question. How often do I have to rebuild my index to make sure I get rid of
stale indexes? I was hoping that desktop search would recognize that I
"moved" my files but it seems like it just retained the old location while
adding the new location.

Interesting. I would imagine, but can't confirm, that the index will eventually
straighten itself out, but forcing it after a major move by rebuilding is
probably not a bad idea.

Hi

WDS builds up a list of changes to the index as you make changes to the
filesystem. When your computer is idle (or when you tell it to 'index
now'), WDS removes old entries from your index and adds new ones (i.e.
builds and re-builds on your index).

The problem your experiencing is probally due to you not giving WDS
enough time to re-index its list of files that have been modified.

Cheers,
David
