Just switched over from Palm where I save my data on my thumbdrive rather
than on my PC for security reasons.

Similarly, I now want to to place all my files on a folder in my thumbdrive
instead of on the default ........My Documents\<username> My Documents. Can
this be done?

Thanks.
Tam

Can't... at least not easy nor recommended.

>> thumb drive <<

Consider swapping your current thumb drive for a small SD card reader
and a large SD card... doing so gives you both functionality... the card
works as a thumb drive with pc's and the card provides the ppc with full
access to the files on the card when mobile.

One other option is to add a pc card reader, then use a pc "file sync"
program to keep your thumb and SD in harmony.

Thanks to both Bev and Raj.
I chanced upon Chris De Herrera's tip on another posting to use
MightySync. Tried it out and it worked for me.

I did this:
1. Copied folders and files from \<username> My Documents on my Desktop
to a folder on my thumbdrive.
2. Used MightySync to sync from thumbdrive to a folder on my PPC. This
folder has to on the same level as My Documents, not below it.
3. Delete all folders at \<username> My Documents on my Desktop.
4. Subsequent sync will be between files on the thumbdrive and the PPC
with no files appearing on \<username> My Documents on my Desktop

Only annoyance is that both Pocket Word and Pocket Excel can't "see"
Word and Excel files on their file dropdown lists. They can only "see"
files in the "My Document" folder. To get round that, I look for the
files using FileExplorer and open them from there.

Congrats and hope it works for you over time.

My suggestions were primarly to prompt you to look at some different
options as you are just starting down the PPC road and I and others have
learned that while activesync (and mightysync) are good tools, they have
ongoing limits that will dog you over the years.

In my case, I use the "sync folder" for dynamic documents that change
regularly, then use the SD and a file sync program to maintain the bulk
of the files... I also use a small card reader in lieu of a traditional
"thumb drive" as the contents of any usb device are inaccessable to the
ppc unless it's one of the few with usb host capabilities.

again, glad you got your need addressed.

Beverly,

Can I ask which Sync program yu use? I use Mightysync between my PC and the
SD card. It sychronizes my 'favorites' and few other items between my Office
and Home Pcs and works....abt 95pct of the time. However it has a habit of
copying items several times - especially items in SplashID. Maybe yours is
better?

Thanks
Mark
