Can anyone recommend a product that can hide shared folders like
Microsofts Access Based Enumeration? I cannot use MS ABE because I am
using a Win2k DC.
Thanks
J. Thomas

(tongue in cheek) Novell NetWare ?

I have not seen, but it may be there, something that ties into
Windows to do this.

If your folder structure is fairly simple, in terms on little
nesting of areas that are distinctly permissioned and of
being fairly static relative to changes in permissioning,
then I could envison making a fairly simple authenticated
web app that would do the filtering based on groups of
the browsing account and present pages with UNC links.

LOL!

I actually had to clean coke off my keyboard for that one Roger. :)

I haven't seen any third party tools to do this. It would require at least one
device driver level piece of code, it would be non-trivial and probably more
expensive than buying Windows Server 2003.

Roger & Joe,

Actually, there is a third party product that does this called Cloak by
www.scriptlogic.com and it sells for under $200 per server.

I'm not trying to beat up on the company. They produce quality
software and I would recommend their Desktop Authority product to
anyone. But I experienced very slow file copies after Scriptlogic
Cloak was installed. I called their tech support about this and they
told me the development team has looked into this and determined that
it is not a Cloak problem. I told them that the problem disappears
when I remove Cloak. The reply was, "Yes, but the dev team
determined that it is some other CPU intensive programs that are
interfering with Cloak." Last time I looked at the Scriptlogic forum
postings other customers were having the same problem and their reply
was the same. It is obviously a Cloak bug and the development teams
"pass the buck" response made it my problem. Cloak also caused a
horrible display refresh problem on cloaked folders. The product should
not be interfering with the video driver like this so I question the
design of the program. The program has undergone about 5 post release
revisions and still has some severe bugs. (I guess that's why it
sells for under $200 per server ?). Between this, the development
teams' misdiagnosis of the problem, the occasional crashing of the
server service I think it's clear that the development team lacks
expertise in this type of programming. Enough said. I should have
tested it for the full evaluation period before purchasing.

I was hoping that someone could recommend a similar product from
another vendor?
