Hi, I'm new to newsgroups and to activesync, so hopefully I can ask the
right questions to get the answers I need. I just recently purchased the
Cingular 8125. Loving it, I loaded it up with all of my contact data,
calendar items, etc. (manually entering everything, took forever!) - Last
night I went to plug the thing in and the piece that you plug into on the
phone broke. I went to Cingular today and they kindly replaced my 8125, but
now I can not seem to figure out how to get my data with the previous
partnership onto my new phone. Everytime I try to sync, it makes me create a
new partnership and I can't seem to figure out how to regain the data that
was sync'd to the computer. Please help as I do NOT want to manually type
all this data back in. Thanks!

Hi,

You can simply create a new partnership with your mobile device. The data
available in MS Outlook will synchronize to your device.

If you wish to use the old partnership name, then you will need to delete it
first. Note that deleting of partnership doesn't delete the data in
Outlook. It merely removes the relationship set between the computer and
the device. It will only remove the synchronization and file conversion
settings associated with the partnership. It will prompt you if the
synchronization folder data has to be deleted.

You can keep the sync folder so that when the new partnership is set with
same name, it will automatically use the same data folder and files within
them get sync'd to your device.

To delete and recreate the partnership --

1. Disconnect the device from the computer.
2. In Activesync -> File -> Mobile Device.
3. Select the device whose synchronization relationship you want to end.
4. On the File menu, click Delete Mobile Device
5. Connect the new device and follow the onscreen instructions to setup a
new partnership.

Thank you very much for responding Raj...I am still having issues as I have
now deleted the partnerships and re-synced, however, it keeps automatically
calling my partnership WM_Lisa when I want it to call it something else. My
device name is not WM_Lisa anywhere, or at least I can't find that
anywhere...Is there something I'm missing? How is it getting that name?

If it is a WM5 device if go to start, settings, system tab and tap on about
there will be a device ID tab that will have that name. The reason it
created the name is that the activesync partnership was initiated by PC via a
get connected wizard rather than after software installed just connecting the
device and letting the device transmit the device ID from Unit. If PC
initiates the connection it will use a variation of the Windows Logon name
and push that name onto device ID field of the WM5 device.

Oh this sounds like I'm very close to getting it back to the way it was
then...can you tell me...how do i make sure that it will let the device
transmit the device id instead of the other way around with the pc
initiating and the get connected wizard naming the device? Thank you so much
for this, I know I'm so close now! :)
