My phone works great on my home computer but I can't get my office
computer to recognize the phone at all -- no usb recognition, the port
seems ok though -- I reinstalled activesync 3.8 but can only use the
program as found on my company's site. Can't use another version or
upgrade to 4.1. My computer seems to need a driver that is not
installed by the corporate activesync version. Can somebody email me
the drivers, or tell me the names of needed drivers so that I can move
them from my home computer to my office. Or, if my diagnosis is
cockeyed, please feel free to offer alternative solutions. thanks
Barry

One more piece of information -- both computers are XP Professional
environments.
Thanks again.

You might try a different USB port. The drivers that install with AS take
over after the USB device has been detected. If you don't even get the
initial USB detection boop and then the new hardware detected stuff, there
is stuff wrong before the drivers are even looked for.

Thanks. This really could be a problem. I only have the one port --
it is an IBM laptop. The port seems to work when I plug in my keyboard
and it worked last week when I attached my ipaq. Could the port be
good for some things but not for others? I also tried two cables with
the same result.

In a sense, yea, the port could somehow have already decided it doesn't know
what this thing is and refuse to mess with it. Sort of like connecting a new
device, cancelling the driver install, and checking the don't try installing
this again box. I don't expect you did this, but it gets the same sort of
result. You connect the item again and nothing happens. The only way around
it, I believe is to dig into the device manager under USB while it is
connected and find the unrecognized device and uninstall it. Maybe then it
will see it as a new device. You at least need to get to the found new
device wizard, before you can know if the right stuff is available for the
SMT in your stock 3.8 install.
