Hi,
I got my MPX 220 from Europe and have been using it here in U.S. with the
T-mobile .service for a while already. It is workng fine so far.

The Motorola U.S. web site shows there is a new ROM update for the phone.
The information shows the update is only for phone purchased in U.S. and
Cingular. I wonder if I can install it, although I am with T-mobile U.S.,
not Cingular. Would this ROM update cause my phone locked to Cingular
service and leave it unusable using T-mobile service?

I hope someone would be an expert on this issue and give me an advice.
Thank you very much.

No it wouldn't lock it, but it is unlikely that the system will install it
for you. At most I think it might stick you with a Cingular startup screen
if it worked. The updater on the web site is a program you run on your PC
with your Smartphone attached. It reads your phone and then goes out to the
web to get the stuff to update with. I know a few folks that have tried this
with other than Cingular/ATT phones, myself included. For me at seems that
everything works fine, but it tells my I am at the latest release and it
doesn't need to update. I'm at 1.300. I am using a Cingular SIM in it.

The mpx220 firware/ROM update will not lock your phone and it does not matter
what carrier you use. The only problem you may run into is that it MUST be a
US version phone...
