I bought an IBM A31 with a reasonable but aging battery -- probably
better than average, considering its age. There's no shortage of 'new'
units on eBay and elsewhere, but I'm wondering if I couldn't get better
overall performance & shelf-life by having my battery re-celled. I
found one outfit that does this:

http://www.batteryrefill.com/laptops/ibm/thinkpad_A30.phtml

I have no idea if they do quality work or if I'd be throwing good money
after bad, so I'm wondering if anyone else has tried this before.

Thanks.

I had the battery for my 6+ year old HP OmniBook rebuilt by them, and am
pleased with the result. I get at least as much runtime as when the machine
was new.

Any batteries you get from less than top shelf vendors may be old, in which
case you're gaining little.

Sent a Toshiba battery for re-cell last August. Got it back in
December! Works fine.

That's a pretty long turn-around time! I recall mine came back within a
couple weeks.

They screwed up the case the first time. Then I went to the back of
the line again for the fix.
