Please log in for more thread options Generally it's possible and easy IF you can get to the hard drive. On
most laptops, there is a compartment that opens easily with just 1 or 2
screws, you just have to know where it is (model specific, obviously).
On a few it's under the keyboard, inside the battery compartment, etc.
On a VERY small number, you have to do major disassembly of the entire
laptop, down to the motherboard, to change the hard drive.
The drives are standardized, although they come in several standard
thicknesses. Since you are already past the 8 gigabyte barrier, you can
probably take a 40 gig drive with no problems, basically any 40 gig
drive that is not "too" thick will work (most likely your laptop's hard
drive compartment is either 9.5 or 12.5mm in thickness).
Use your ears to find out where in the laptop the hard drive is located,
and then your eyes. Or look for a service manual.
