I have an Acer Aspire 3003WLCi with a 4200 RPM hard disk, and wanted to
upgrade to a 7200 RPM hard disk. I currently have an old Hitachi
Travelstar. I opened up the hard disk door, but all I saw was a metal
box, it didn't look like any of the hard disks I have seen. Does anyone
know how to do a hard disk upgrade in this laptop?

This is the hard disk, but it is in a caddy. If you look, there are two
seams that separate the base and lid, remove the lid (carefully!) and
underneath is a standard laptop drive.
You may need to unscrew the connector at the end, from memory it just
pulls off.

I have a 3004 but I suspect it is the same. At right end of the caddy
there is a single screw, remove it (be careful not to let it fall the
nearby hole in the case). Slide the caddy to the and the hard drive
will become unplugged. Remove caddy and then remove hard drive from
caddy. QED.
