I just got a new HTC TyTN II.

What I found most annoying so far w.r.t. ActiveSync is, that the TyTN
always spends forever and a day "Connecting".

When I connect the TyTN (via USB or Bluetooth), it already takes pretty
long until the device is detected at all (much longer than my previous
device used to take), and then is this endless phase of "Connecting"
after which there is a 50% chance, that this process hangs completely
(i.e. "Connecting" never ends and no sync starts). If indeed it finally
starts syncing then the speed is everything but breathtaking, to say it
friendly... Compared with what I see here my former Dell Axim X51v
behaved like a rocket.

I'm pretty disappointed by this, so far. If that syncing business
doesn't improve significantly, it makes the TyTN almost useless.

Is this a known behavior or problem or is this just with my Laptop (IBM
T60p using WinXP pro)? Any ideas, how to improve this?

Michael

In the meantime I found out, that it is actually ActiveSync (4.5) that
seems to crash here again and again.
The HTC remains live and fucntional, but I have to kill and restart
ActiveSync to recover from these hangs.

But it's still slow as hell...

I have experienced similar, but i actualy think that there is a problem
betwen active sync and an other running program, in my case i think that it
is thinkvantage wifa manger from Lenovo. Is you pc also Lenovo/IBM Thinkpad?

Yes - it's indeed a Lenovo T60p, but I am not running the ThinkVantage
Connectivity manager (or whatever you mean).

In earlier years I also always had problems with IBM/Lenovo's attempts
to manage "connectivity profiles" (it essentially always fought with
windows for control), so I have removed that from this machine as one of
the first thing after getting it.

I have a new TytnII I experience all the previous slow connections.. plus the
fact that when the phone is first turned on it takes around 20 minutues to
"load" or index the cointacts (5000 contacts). Until it has finished its
indexing the phone is a useless for any other task inclkuding making or
receiveing phone calls.

any ideas?
