I tried to recover this HP Media Center PC m7060n but the HP recovery disks I
ordered and the second set HP sent me refuse to work. They say they are not
for this PC. HP says I need to send the machine back because something is
wrong with it. I have installed XP Home and it works perfectly except I can't
find a bus driver so the RealTek audio will install. HP's site has nothing. I
have a product key for Media Center but can't obtain the software.

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Sam

HP recovery discs are keyed to only install on the computer model(s) they
were intended for. To that end the motherboard is also "branded". If the
recovery software does not detect the correct HP branding on the MB it will
not install on that computer. If you changed the MoBo or BIOS to anything
non-m7060n then you are SOL for recovering the PC with the HP software.

It is possible that if you installed another OS on the harddrive or modified
the original partitions (Recovery + OS) those factors could also be
interfering with the recovery process. If you haven't already, you could try
wiping the harddrive completely and then try using the recovery discs again.
Using a new harddrive is another option.

The licence for the OEM Media Center Edition (and other software) that came
with the computer is an HP bulk licence so HP is the only party who would
replace it for you.

Thank you for the info. I did wipe the harddrive but the system is stock from
HP. I did a BIOS update after XP Home came up to running and retried a
recovery but got the same error "Not for this PC"

Thanks again,
Sam

According to specs it's a similar model to mine. Having XP Home on the pc
when you try to do a recovery can prevent it. Best case circumstance if the
HP OS has been removed from the harddrive is that the drive is empty,
unformatted and unpartitioned before trying the recovery. IIRC there was a
similar problem posted in the HP forums, but I don't remember the outcome.
