Hi Guys,

Has anybody seen a fault like this before?

I have a HP Pavillion notebook, that has been sitting dormant for wee
while now!
(sorry dont have the exact model on me right now)
But it is an LG panel in it - part number - LP154W01(TL)(AE)

The LCD appears to be divided in 3 sections.
The top 2 sections display fine.

However the bottom third is blank / black.
Sometimes it does have a distorted part of the image on it. But it
would be frozen in place.
Sorry quite difficult to describe.

But mainly the top two thirds of the display are fine, and the bottom
3rd is blank.

The video card seems to work fine with an external monitor. No
problems there.

I am thinking of buying a new screen for it. But wondering whether
there may be another component that could be causing the problem also.

Cheers,

Tim

The problem is in the video subsystem on the mainboard, the video cable,
or the connection of the video cable to the LCD. You might find that
the cost of a new LCD is equivalent or even more expensive than a new
notebook and it might not fix the defect.

I had the same problem with a less than year old Dell. They did an LCD
replacement w/o much question.
Definitely check cable seating first.
You can sometimes find a parts or repair unit with a good LCD on EBAY
for less than a separate LCD panel will cost you. Hit or miss there though.
