Good lightweight case for 17 inch laptop? campyhapper 06-26-2008

Hi all,

I'm thinking about buying a Toshiba 17 inch laptop
that's on sale. I want to get a light but sturdy case for it,
i.e. definitely not neoprene rubber only. Yet at my
local electronics stores (Bestbuy & Circuit City)
very little is on offer in the 17 inch size that is not
quite heavy-- as in 4 pounds.

Given that the laptop itself is already 7 pounds
plus the 0.5 pound power brick, I can hardly
stand another 4 pounds.

Is there a good light study case for 17" laptops?

Thanks.

The question is whether you want only a convenient
way of carrying it, or else protection against shock,
crushing, or other damage. If just for carrying, any
fabric bag will do. My old and heavy Toshiba fits
exactly a cheap Indian-made shoulder bag (brightly
printed hessian) that empty weighs almost nothing.

I really want something that has some structure.
I don't believe it's an either-or situation,
as I gather you do. For instance, there is a
laptop bag made to suit 15.4" laptops that
is light and yet has structure. Unfortunately
locally I do not see a 17" equivalent. But that
doesn't mean such a thing doesn't exist.

Thanks, I think they do have a bag that will do.
It's not perfect but it may be good enough.
