Getting Rid Of Push To Talk Scott 12-21-2007

While I was installing software on my new AT&T Tilt Smartphone, thinking this
was part of the program, I inadvertently initialized AT&T's PTT (Push To Talk)
feature, which put a blue ball next to the Start Menu. I am not interested in
this feature. Is there a way to remove the blue ball icon?

Just before this, I did a Sprite backup onto the Micro SD card. Would it work
to go to Settings/Clear Storage, give it a hard reset and then restore the
earlier backup from the SD card?

Will the Sprite backup restore every program and setting?

Would this eliminate that blue ball icon on top?

Thanks!
Scott

I'd call tech support first.

If you have made few or no changes, manually clear everything on the device
AND storage card.
Perform a hard reset. Verify there are no programs and data except those
supplied by Mobile 6.
Make sure ActiveSync is not set to alter your desktop with the handset data.
Do a restore from Sprite, but choose carefully in the section where it has a
check box for ROM. There appears to be a conflict at Sprite between the tech
writing department and programmers re this feature.

It >>should<<.

I made several mistakes using Sprite and doing a Mobile 6 upgrade on the
8525:
1- There are so many warnings data may be lost in a ROM re-flash, I assumed
everything would be gone: not!
2- Restoration of data and programs from Mobile 5 to Mobile 6 confused
Sprite so some programs got partially over written, some got restored, some
were restored but not listed in the program registry. Sprite saved some
storage card stuff to device memory. What had previously been 13 MB of free
memory, went to 1 preventing most programs from working.
3- Having figured out what happened, I will manually clear everything, hard
reset. Then re-flash the ROM. After making sure everything is clear by
checking available memory, I will re-install six programs I run, then try
drag and drop from the Sprite Mobile 5 backup to Mobile 6 using Sprite
Explorer.

I would stick with the 'call tech support' suggestion. AFAIK PTT is not a
free feature, and I think you just signed up for it. I got around the issue
inadvertently by finding the instructions to add the PTT button to the list
of buttons in the control panel. I wanted this to assign that button to
Voice Command (makes sense right, Push to Talk). Guess that solved the auto
activation too.

Update: Rather than clearing the storage, I just did a restor with Sprite. That
seemed to solve the prlblem. Sometimes, when I do a soft reset, the blue globe
button appears on top of the today screen. I just click on it, turn PTT on, and
the icon disappears. I'll call AT&T tech support to make sure I'm not signed up
for PTT. I read somewhere that you only get charged for it if you actually make
a call, using this feature.
