I am evaluating, on a preliminary basis, GIS software.
ESRI, yes I heard of that. Any others?
Is there any Open Source GIS software?

commercial - MapInfo, GeoMedia, Manifold (lots of others as well)

On the right side is a list of popular tools, like uDig, geoserver,
etc.

Other commercial software include CARIS Carta, and AutoCAD Map 3D.

One of the best open source GIS packages out there is GRASS for linux
systems.
