Hi there,

I'm wondering whether Firewall part in Windows 2003 is good enough? Do we
need to install 3rd firewall software?
It's too tired to configure the firewall, the roles of my server are DNS,
WINS, File & Printer server, and an AD (scheme server) that needs to
synchronize with other ADs. How many ports do I need open?

Thank you very much.

Ray

Do not make the mistake of thinking about the XP firewall when it is
the rather different Windows Server 2003 firewall.
For many people using the Security Configuration Wizard and its
server roles is the way to start hardening a W2k3 SP1 system.
While everyone will have their own opinion, my own is that if one is
looking for an endpoint firewall for W2k3 there is no need to spend
money replacing what is already there.

Roger,

Thank you for your opinion. I've read some articles about XP firewall and
W2k3 firewall, here it's just a tough job to configure 2k3 firewall for me
without Security Configuration Wizard that I didn't know before. Let me try
it.

BTW, we bought several firewall software before W2k3 SP1 was released. Money
has gone :(.
