(Windows Desktop Search)

So, do I have to wait for my computer to idle and then Windows Desktop
Search starts to index properly? I right clicked on the icon --> Index Status
--> Index Now and has only indexed 1,110 files...these files are all .lnk and
..url.

It doesn't index .doc, images, videos etc.

Google Desktop Search is so much easier to use. Google indexes everything
all in one go.

It only indexes NEW files. Today, I downloaded three .pdf files. I typed the
files name in the search and all (.pdf files) came up in the results page.

Options, desktop search, and in there is it set to index those objects that
you're seeing as unindexed? Has it finished indexing?

Right click the taskbar icon and select index now if you want.

WDS should be indexing everything in the folders you've chosen to index,
regardless of whether they were added before or after installation.

WDS will not index hidden files.

It should, however, pick up all of your .doc, images, videos, etc.

If you only have it set to index "E-mail and My Documents" however, it won't
pick up anything not in the MyDocs/MyMusic/MyPictures folders.

Also, if you want your index to always be up-to-date, you can enable the
"Prioritize Indexing" option, which is under the "Advanced Options" tab.

That will tell the index not to wait for you to be idle, and to index
everything immediately. I use this and it works great. However, this can
affect the performance of your system. But you can always turn it back off
if you have problems.
