If you drill into the Advanced dialog in the NTFS permissions
and then highlight the grant to the group you want to limit and
click on edit, then you will see that you can control to what the
ACE applied. You would want a modify grant that applies to
Files only, but a different, perhaps list, read/execute, or such
that applies to This folder and subfolders, or even to This folder,
subfolders and files. (there a number of ways to accomplish
what you have stated).
Just avoid using Deny if you want the most problem-free
deployment in the long run.
