Here are two features, from other desktop search clients, which I
feel would vastly improve Windows Desktop Search:
1.) An option to choose how much content is indexed.
Note: taken from Copernic.

2.) A Quick Search feature:
Note: Taken from Google Desktop Search.

Note: I much prefer a Quick Search box activated by a hotkey over
having to have it embedded into the taskbar. Though, the option to do
either or both would be nice.
Note: I also like how the location of the file is shown. Even if
this style of quick search is not implemented, it would be nice if
the path information was displayed in the embedded search box. Not
only would it be less confusing, I imagine it would be more secure,
too. (I know that this is an option in the main search window of WDS,
but it'd be nice to have it as an option for the embedded search box
as well.)
Thank you.
