Export Current Settings to Template? BW 03-03-2007

I have found in the MS education plenty of references to import security
templates and creating new templates using existing templates. I've found
none that say how to create a template given only a configured computer.
Is that possible? If I install a server then manually determine and setup
security directly (no GPOs or templates), can I dump that security setup
and create a template or set of templates from it?

You can try to use the secedit /export capability to see if you
can get it to work for you. I and others find it broken.
secedit /? for info on supposed usage.

Thanks! Found another answer as well. The Security Configuration and
Analysis tool has an export template function.

Yes, I believe the two are using the same under the covers.
Do post back if you manage to have any success, ey?

Exporting the template for a sample computer seemed to work just fine.
Status is still solved.
