When I bought my PC from Dell it did not come with disks to reinstall the OS if
their was a hard drive failure. I bought a new unregistered copy of Windows
Media Center 2005 on eBay. After formatting the new hard drive I load the OS
then after a normal boot I run WindowsXP Service Pack 2 followed by the Update
disk (assuming it to be Update Rollup 2. My error message states that
.Netframework 1.1 must be installed before updates can be made. After load ALL
Microsoft Updates I again try to run the Update disk and get an error stating
updates can only be made to Media Center Version 2005. All 3 disks came in 1 CD
case(unopened) and each show that they are version 2005. There is a single file
on the update disk named WindowsXPMediaCenter2005-KB900325.exe and the CD shows
to be titled MA2SPOEM_EN. When I try to run Media Center the entire screen goes
black and I have to use Task Manager to kill the process and get control of the
PC again. Any help from anyone will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Jim Davis

A little hard to tell from your message, but are you saying you installed
SP2 after installing MCE?

If so, that will dork-up MCE. MCE 2005 already contains SP2, loading it
again causes problems. If this is what happed, start with a clean install
and only use the MCE disks. Disc 1 is XP w/ SP2, disc 2 is the MCE bits; you
will be asked for 1, then 2, then go back to 1 (don't use a separate SP2
disc).

In a 3 disk set for Window Media Center Edition 2005, Disk 1 is Windows XP
Pro with SP2, Media Center bits is on Disk 2, Disk 3 is the Rollup 2 update,
Requires Net Framework 1.1 and the update for Net Framework 1.1.

You will be asked for disk 1, then disk 2, back to disk 1. After you have
Media Center running and connect on the internet you can install Net
Framework 1.1, then Disk 3 will do Rollup 2.
