Hi, I need some help. I have a Dell Inspiron 6000 laptop with XP Home and MCE
installed.
MCE initially worked fine, but I now receive the following messages when I
try to use MCE.
1.MESSENGER FAILURE Media Centre was unable open Windows Messenger please
make sure it is installed on your system, (I have windows messenger installed
and it runs OK)
I get the following message when I select MY MUSIC:-
2. AUDIO ERROR
Object reference not set to an instance of an object. (This is all
gobbledegook to me, but perhaps someone out there knows what it means.
Thanks.

Dixon,

Did you ever resolve the Messenger Failure issue? I have the same message
but haven't seen any responses detailing how to correct the problem.

Thanks.

I called Dell and they helped me with a work around. My problem was the same
message, but I Windows Messenger doesn't work at all. That's OK with me. I
don't use Windows Messenger.

The Dell tech found a site which recommends a change in the registry which I
did and it works for me.

Here's the website.

http://groups.google.com/groups?q=media+center+was+unable+to+open+windows+messenger+%2B+mce&hl=en&lr=&sa=X&oi=groups&ct=title

I clicked in the first link that says "MCE 2005: Messenger Error."

The scrolling down to the bottom, Michael Creasy's response shows what to
do...

Good luck! I hope this solves this very frustrating problem
