I purchased a Sony VGC-RB54G w/Windows Media Center about a month ago. Since
then I have wasted many blank DVD's trying to burn recorded TV shows. It
works about 50% of the time. I am not very experienced when it comes to the
inner workings of computer software/hardware but the process of burning a DVD
on this computer seems to be pretty straight-forward. Everytime there is a
failure I receive the same error message. The exact text is as follows:
"Cannot write to the disc because of an error (ID: 544). I am currently using
Imation Brand DVD-R blanks. Am I doing something wrong or do I possibly have
a DVD drive problem? Any help/suggestions are appreciated. Thanks!!

I'm having the same problem with a Sony VGC-RB38G that I've had for about 6
months. I've tried both Memorex DVD-R and Fujifilm DVD+R media with zero
luck. I get the same error id 544 message that Gringo wrote about. I've
download the latest patches for XP and updated the DVD drivers too.
I'm trying to record old VCR tapes to DVD and I have no problem recording
the DVD's onto the computer but cannot make a DVD. Any help would be
appreciated!
