I have seen that there has been an enormous amount of discussion on this
topic but unfortunately I am still none the wiser. Some have suggested
referring to previous newsgroup discussions for fixes but nothing I have
tried has worked. I am also not very computer literate and this is my first
ever foray into discussion groups, so please bear with me.

I have a home PC (not networked) with XP and SP2 and Norton Internet
Security. I have installed ActiveSync 4.1 and Outlook 2002 (which came on
the disk with my pocket pc phone which is an Orange SPV M5000)

I have tried:

Reinstalling Outlook
Breaking/Refixing the partnership
Turning Norton off (despite having followed the advice given on the
microsoft site to manually configure the firewall to ensure that it is not
going to block anything).
Reseting my pocket pc (including a hard reset)
I have also made sure that I am working with Outlook online when I sync (I
have broadband so I am assuming I am always online?)

There is no problem with the connection - my device is recognised - it is
simply this error that keeps popping up.

I have tried everything I can think of for a remedy and have probably spent
about 10 hours trying to get it to work. I would really appreciate it if
someone is able to help. Thanks.

This is a communications error - try uninstalling Norton Internet
Security and see if you can connect. Odds are that Norton is blocking
some traffic, even when it is disabled.

JimmyA - I had the same error on my iPaq 2495. I performed a detect and
repair through Outlook. Reset my iPaq, and rebooted my computer. After
restart, i re-synced the ipaq, and all was well. Give it a try. The error
disappeared after this for me. Good luck.
