After shutting down MCE, ehrecvr still continues to eat up about 25% of the
CPU (1.5 GHz). First I don't know why it is still running and second, why
should it be using so many CPU cycles?

It appears that you may have been watching Live TV with MCE and then stopped
without switching to playing a recorded program and then stopping in which
case MCE is still recording the live TV program so you can time shift it.
