Hello,

I just upgraded from an older Blackberry to a Motorola Q with Verizon.
Unless the message is very short, when I receive my e-mail the text is not
usually included after the header. Instead, I have to specify that I want
the full text downloaded the next time mail is retrieved. This is a backward
step from my Blackberry. Is this a standard "feature" or can I adjust the
length of the messages to be downloaded in the first instance?

Thanks in advance.

You can define how many bytes of an E-Mail should be downloaded:

Open Messaging
Select the E-Mail account you want to change
Click Menu -> Opetions
Click Account Settings
Walk through the account setup
In "Download the following messages" you can select from "Today's
messages"to "All messages" and "Header only" to "Entire message".

So it's up to your configuration how much is downloaded.

I followed your instructions but in my software (version 5.0) there is no
choice for "Download the following messages". In the e-mail setup the only
fields are Name, E-Mail Address and Automatic Setup. Also, in my software
version there is no Account Settings option which you referenced. There is
an Account Options section, which led me to the account name and e-mail setup
section, But as previously mentioned, there is no Download preference
selection to be found there. Is my software corrupted perhaps? Or did I not
follow the instructions properly? TIA

I think you missed where Arne said to "walk through" the menus. For IMAP
and POP, it's the last page of settings IIRC. For Exchange mail it's
easier to through Activesync (on the device of course- not the PC!).
Menu > Options > Tap the WORD "e-mail" (under "Microsoft Exchange) NOT
the checkbox (to highlight it) thentap "setting" at the bottom and then
on the settings page select to download the entire message and whether or
not you want to download attachments.

Oh, you are right. I just described the POP/IMAP setup, not the Exchange
setup. Thanks for adding.
Just confirmed with a Q-owner - all the settings are there as well which
allows to define the message size.
