I'm running Server 2003 w/ SP1 in a single domain. I have an issue when
trying to access recourses from outside the domain. For example, if I try to
access a folder while on a laptop that is not joined I will have to specify
domain\username. This is becoming a hassle since we're adding more users.
How can I specify ONLY the username?

Thank You,

if your laptop is not joined to domain, of course domain controller will
require user name and password.
unless you enable guest account in domain controller but that will cause
security issue.
you laptop only can access a folder at domain controller with two condition:
1) guest account has enable on domain or.
2) enter a username and password are already assign/exist in domain
controller.

Poster did not state share was on a domain controller, which
your response assumes, and which might be correct assumption.

Actually there are three cases. The two you mentioned, and
use of anonymous connection to share that allows anonymous.
If you are right, and share is on domain controller, then either
case would have to be enabled for the domain (not necessarily
for all of its members though), but if you are incorrect the case
would only have to be done on the sharing member.
