Is it possible to get Dolby Digital 5.1 SPDIF output from Media Center? I
recently had a TurtleBeach sound card that had an optical out port, but I
could never get it to pass through the DVD Dolby Surround. I only got
stereo sound. It was either the Sound card or the DVD decoder, but something
was downgrading the 5.1 to 2 channel stereo.

I downloaded the 60 day trial of the nVidia DVD decoder, and on the
configuration screen, it tells me that it will downgrade the signal.

Is there a DVD Decoder/Sound Card combination that I can use to receive
Dolby Digital 5.1 via optical out? My tuner does not have COAX, only
optical.

Thanks,

Yes it is possible - and it is a settign (usually) in your decoder.

For example, I have one box with the nvidia decoder and a SB Audigy 2 - the
only setting I touched was in the Decoder properties while playing a DVD.

You didn't read it right. It clearly says:

| S/PDIF pass through for external decoding of Dolby Digital and DTS
| (compatible hardware required)

Check out the new Turtle B -Montego DDL. It doesnt decode dts or DD. It
passes it through to the A/V receiver to do that via optical. I like it. Set
5.1 in CPanel-sound too.
