HP and Linksys have discontinued theirs long ago. The only thing out there
appears to be an XBox... I'm not going to buy a video game console simply to
be able to watch TV from the Media Center in other rooms of the house. Are
there any other options out there?

Not really. The Xbox 360 is the best choice, as it does SD and HD and is
supported by Vista.

Understand your point, but......

If you look around you can still find the Linksys and HP extender available
in some online stores. However, for the price difference (an XBox 360 Core
System is sufficient for extender functionality), go with the 360.

Don't fret! 'Version 2' extenders are on the way. Microsoft is pushing the
technology hard for Vista integration. Not just in stand-alone extenders but
also in hybrid units (dvd players, tvs, etc with built-in extender
technology). See link for more info...

Its stinks that we have to wait for them but it will certainly be worth it
in the end.

Netgear came out with one last month called the EVA 700. It doesnt say
anything about Windows Vista. But says "The NETGEAR Digital Entertainer is
Intel® Viiv™ verified, enabling you to take advantage of Intel’s new
platform
for digital entertainment".

Version 2 extenders are suppose to be Viiv enabled so is this a version 2
extender? Probably not. So looks like we will still have to wait on Vista.
