Hi,
I am planning to buy a very low end lap top from Dell Intel® Celeron®
M 360 (1.40 GHz/1MB Cache/400MHz FSB,
http://www1.us.dell.com/content/products/features.aspx/inspn_1200?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs but I have 2 concerns about it.
1. Does a celeron M processor have default inbuilt wireless, or do I
need to buy an external wireless card or make sure it has an internal
wireless card? I thought Celeron M processors have 802.11b/g standard
inside them and can connect to a wireless router for internet.
2. How easy and expensive is it to replace a 256 MB 1 dimm RAM in this
laptop with 512 MB RAM. Dell doesnt do it for this computer, so I will
have to replace it once I get the computer personally.
Thanks.

Go to the next page, it clearly shows that a PC-Card wireless is
available. The RAM is supplied in two sticks of 128MB. With two slots,
these would have to be replaced.
The kicker in this offering at $499 is that there is no service,
support, or warranty for the base price. I suppose that the standard 15
day no questions asked return policy is honored, but after that, unless
you pay for it, there appears to be nothing as the text at the bottom of
the page clearly states.

Please log in for more thread options wow, now that it is all straighten out if you chose not to go with an
installed
wireless card you can purchase a pcmcia wireless card, I would recommend
getting the memory from Dell...IF the price is comparable to other vendors.

Please log in for more thread options : 1. Does a celeron M processor have default inbuilt wireless, or do I

No CPU has a built-in wireless card, and that includes Celeron M. You
are confusing "Celeron" (the name of the CPU) with "Centrino," the
name of a package that includes Pentium M, the big brother of Celeron
M CPU, plus a wireless card and chip set. It's understandable that
you would mix up "Celeron" and "Centrino" but they have nothing to do
with each other. And again "Centrino" is not a CPU chip.
So no, a Celeron M laptop will not have a built-in wireless card by
default. But it is cheap to add a PC Card WiFi card to pretty much
any modern laptop.

If both DIMM slots are occupied, you'll probably be buying a 512MB
SO-DIMM and removing one of the 128MB SO-DIMMs already in there. But that
would give you 640MB total.
The cost of a 512MB SO-DIMM? Depends on the speed, but it could be as
cheap as $30 if you find the right price. Probably not more than
about $100 at most if you do it yourself. Go to Crucial.com to figure
out exactly what kind of RAM you need for this laptop and see their
price, but you can usually do better than their price elsewhere.

Please log in for more thread options No, NO processor has an internal wireless capability. The Intel
"Centrino" is not a processor, but an Intel trademark for a laptop built
with a specific MULTI-CHIP Intel architecture. You can't put the
"Centrino" label on a laptop unless you have all of the components
(including the wireless card), but even in a Centrino system, the
wireless function is not in the CPU but in one of the other Intel chips.
Systems which use the same CPU as a Centrino but which don't use the
ENTIRE architecture (all based on Intel chips) can't be called Centrino,
but they can still have the same CPU (and various other components) as a
Centrino system.
Many computers have internal wireless cards, and many don't. But that
is a computer issue. You can use a PC-Card wireless card, or an
external USB wireless card, with any computer (including one that has an
internal card .... the internal card can be turned off, and also a
laptop can have multiple network interfaces).
You can check memory prices at any number of places, including Newegg,
Crucial, etc. You want SO-DIMM of the appropriate speed, almost
certainly DDR. It's not difficult.
