I have a Dell Inspiron. It has two larger vent holes near the back of
the keyboard that are speakers and two smaller vents in the front.
This would be the perfect spot for a mike. From what I am told you can
use a speaker as a mike. I haven't gotten the mike to work.

Without a mike I miss using voice chat and leaving voice mail.

As far as i know the introductory Inspiron 2200, allows you to plug-in an
external Pc Microphone/Headset

How to find out if you do have an Internal Mic ?

microphone volume control in ur accessories menu tab, system hardware in the
control panel or simply visiting dell's website for specifications on your
model : )

Laptops used to have built-in mics. Very, very few still do. Many that
don't still have "provisions" for them molded into the case, however.

>From one who hates to type, it is sad that voice chat and voice emails
have not become the big hit they should be.

Major problem is that they pick up both mechanical and electrical noise.
Best bet with a laptop is generally a USB microphone these days--I was
amazed at how much better voice recognition worked with one.
