My Exchange group will not enable proactive or background scanning due to the
increase of the load on our Exchange environment and the fact that McAffee
has recommended against enabling it in GroupShield.

Is there a way for me to force unread/non-accessed messages to synch/push to
my Motorola Q (WM5) without enabling proactive or background scanning?

I currently have a spare PC setup with OL2K3 in Cached Exchange mode. It
seems to at least enable me to access the messages, but I have to set the
phone to synch once every 5 minutes because I don't get the "direct push"
functionality. The Exchange team will not "support" non blackberry devices
but they are open to suggestions that don't involve increasing the server's
load or preventing messages from going directly into the Message Store. They
are running exch 2k3 SP2.

Thanks,

Jason Fare

Well... not sure what the problem is, but we did notice that the
msExchMailboxSecurityDescriptor for people having issues was massive long
with dupes and everything. We corrected by having the user export all the
mail to a pst. Deleted exchange attributes from user account. puged the
mailbox and then mail-enabled the user with a new mailbox. User then
imported all the emails from the pst.

After doing this, the msExchMailboxSecurityDescriptor looks like this:

O:<SID>G:<SID>D:(A;CI;CCDCRC;;;PS)

where <SID> is the sid of the person who created the mailbox.

one line. that's it. As long as that was the only entry, it worked fine.
The minute we changed mailbox permissions or moved the mailbox to another
store, it added all the rest of the ACLs from the message store and
DirectPush didn't work anymore.
