Hello all,
I am the very disappointed owner of a Verizon (Audiovox) XV6700 and I
have been having nothing but problems with the phone and even worse, the
support offered by Verizon.
When I bought the phone I had my laptop under my arm and in tow. It's an
IBM T30 Running XP with all the newest updates and service packs. As well
as a fresh update of Active Sync Ver 4.0 and using Outlook Express Ver. 6.0
The problem I am having is I can not back up any data and retrieve it.
Repeated calls to Verizon, Audiovox and Microsoft have been useless. I am
left to understand that the only way my configuration will work is to
uninstall the current MS. Office and outlook and downgrade to Outlook. This
goes against everything the sales rep told me and I can not get out of the
contract and I need to find a way to back up my PDA as the unit is a pile of
junk and it was misrepresented at the time of sale (I do freely admit I
failed to research this enough but I had no reason to figure "current
technology" requires obsolete software. Merit to say- I reloaded the PDA
twice, hard resets, reset from Verizon, I am looking at handago.com for
backup software but I really need to defer to an expert in this forum
please. I am truly at my wit's end.

Is there any way to back up to my 2 Gb memory cards and keep one in the
safe?
Is there any way for Active Sync 4.0 to work with this configuration. I
am really in a bind and any help is greatly appreciated.

Respectfully,

Robert D. Fraser II

What version of Office/Outlook do you have? Note that ActiveSync doesn't
work with Outlook Express.

Hal,
Thanks for the reply!
I'm running Office 2003 with Outlook Express 6.0 (All service roll-ups are
in place) Also I failed to mention that I have also updated the Active Sync
to ver 4.2.0 Why the heck would the most popular platform not be
compatible? I'm as lost as I am mad and disappointed. ANY ideas to get me
backed up are greatly appreciated.

Thanks again,

Rob

As I said, ActiveSync will NOT work with Outlook Express, that's why you get
Outlook with ActiveSync. If Office 2003 comes with Outlook 2003, you should
be in good shape. What exactly is happening? I have the Alltel version of
the 6700 and it seems to fairly cooperative, so far.

In addition ASync 4.x no longer has backup options... it is necessary to
purchase a third party application to backup files and settings... if
you get sync to work, that will backup pim data and files located in
main memory my documents folders.
