Hi all, have installed a new ATI HD 3650 video card & have noticed
some strange behavior.

With MCE, video to my monitor (vga) is dim. When I play the same video
(recorded by MCE) in Windows Media player - it's fine. This only
applies to video - when I view an ordinary desktop the vga monitor
looks perfect, really clear/bright/sharp.

While somewhat technically apt, I'm not a teenager - is it possible
that MCE & Windows Media Player are using a different codec, or am I
barking up the wrong tree?

More detail: the connection from the video card to the vga monitor is
via a dvi-to-vga adapter provided with the card. The card also outputs
S-Video and that is fine - no dim video there. I've tried cranking up
the brightness, but you can't compensate the shortfall this way. ATI
tech support was helpful, but basically if WMP is fine & MCE isn't,
I'm thinking this may not be their issue.

Is your OS MCE2005 or Vista? If Vista do you have SP1 installed. The
MSMPEG2 decoder in SP1 for MC is better then the one in Vista RTM.
Yes MC and MP use different decoders or different options with the same
decoder if on MCE2005.
