Hello All,

I just installed a Cablecard on my Sony VGX-XL3 which comes with OEM Vista
Home Premium today and when I try to set up and watch digital cable the first
thing I see is: "Your computer is not digital cable ready. You will not be
able to set it up for use with a Cablecard." As a result, when I try viewing
channels it tells me; "Restrictions set by the broadcaster or originator of
the content prohibit playback of the program on this computer".

During my research I discovered that my computer has two product keys one
for the regular Vista and the other for Digital Cable Activation on the PC.
My problem now is that Media Center does not provide me where I need to enter
it, so I am hoping to find an alternative way to go about doing this.

Any ideas, anyone?

First, what are you connecting to the Sony for a monitor/TV and what
kind of cable? Is the monitor/TV HDCP compliant?

Second, What firmware is in your digital cable tuner?

Third, what video card and driver version are you using?

I have the Sony 46XBR4 46" HDCP-compliant LCD HDTV (all Sony LCD HDTVs are
HDCP compliant as stated on their website). The tuner has the latest 1.16H
firmware. It has the Nvidia 7600GT (says 7600GTL elsewhere) with driver
version 7.15.11.6375.

Thanx.

Just to add in order to fulfill your HDCP question; the same TV has my
prod=vider cable box connected to it and it displays all 1000 channels
including premium and HD with dolby digital 5.1 sound.

Thanx.

What kind of cable are you using?

I don't know what that 7.15 driver equates to, but see
http://www.nvidia.com/object/winvista_x86_169.25_whql.html
also what resolution are you running in? try 1280 x 720.

Install the driver, power down the computer. If there is a cablecard
inserted, remove it temporarily.

Power on

Have you activated Windows itself? If not, please do so.
Now, go into Media Center, Tasks, Settings, TV and setup your TV
signal again. Are you prompted for a key or is there an error
message?

If you get this far, insert cable card and power on and go to media
center, etc. - What happens?
