I was shutting down my computer and DesktopSearch gave an error saying it
wouldn't end. After the allotted time of windows trying to end it, I clicked
the end now. Rebooted the computer and then Desktop Search wouldn't start
up. Gave an error about a bad index and told me to reinstall from
toolbar.msn.com. I tried that and after downloading it, the install told me
it was already installed. I uninstalled and tried again, this time it
installed, but during the installation where I was setting up my options, it
gave me the same error as above about the bad index file and to reinstall. I
uninstalled again, this time making sure all toolbars in windows explorer,
internet explorer and outlook were closed.

Stil have the same problem with the bad index. I have it uninstalled now.

I have the favorites menu added to the start bar. Another error that is now
occurring is I can't open any of my favorites from the start bar anymore. I
get an error saying windows explorer encountered a problem and needs to
close. I click close there and i get a Dr. Watson error. It then freezes my
complete start bar until I kill the Dr. Watson process. Internet Explorer
and my favorites do work when I open Internet Exploer from the icon and then
go to favorites there.

Sorry so long. I hope I gave all the information needed.
I really hope someone can help me on this.

Thanks

I wanted to add some steps I have tried to fix this problem.

Anytime i try to reinstall the desktop search it goes thru the install and
then gives me the message that says "We're sorry, but Windows Desktop Search
has detected a problem with your desktop index and cannot continue. Please
reinstall MSN Search Toolbar here: http://toolbar.msn.com."

I have tried uninstalling the desktop search, all filters, the screen saver
and then tried reinstalling and it still doesn't work. Are there some files
somewhere that didn't get uninstalled that I can manually delete?

Also, I tried reinstalling Internet Explorer 6 by using the ie6.inf file.
That worked and I installed all patches, but I still can't open my favorites
thru the start menu.

Thanks
