Deploying Active Directory Users and Computers? Linn Kubler 02-22-2008

Hi,

I'm trying to give my managers the ability to reset user passwords and
unlock locked users. I think I've figured out the delegation parts but now
I'm wondering how do I install the Active Directory Users and Computers MMC?
I would rather install that on their computers rather than make them log
into my domain controller.

Any one know how I can best handle this?

I'm also possibly interested in scripting the actual password reset and
unlock to simplify those tasks for my managers. If anyone has any resources
handy that could demonstrate how I might do this it would be great.

Thanks in advance,
Linn

Hello Linn,

adminpak.msi from the server deployed with gpo software distribution or local
installed if not so many workstations.

Best regards

Thanks Meinolf, that worked. But man, it sure installs a lot of
applications onto the workstation. Not sure I like that. Don't suppose
there's any way to simply install the Active Directory Users and Computers
application without all the rest, is there?

Thanks,
Linn

Linn,
look into http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=314978 regarding installing
specific admin tools included in the Adminpak.msi. Since this is a Windows
Installer packaged software, you can deploy it via Group Policy.
Alternatively, use scripts listed at
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/scriptcenter/scripts/ad/users/default.mspx?mfr=true
