I have a Dell Inspiron 6000. Living in the Virgin Islands gives me
power surges sometimes. I think I recieved such a surge because now my
power supply won't work. I tried another and it worked fine on my comp.
Is there some sort of a fuse that I can replace? I should be under
warenty but because it was purchased in Canada they say I am out of
luck without buying a new one. Thanks for any responses on this.

Generally a warranty doesn't cover failures due to line faults such as the
surges you describe anyway. Granted, often what actually caused the failure
is a judgement call.

You probably won't be able to get the power supply apart without a hammer &
chisel or a cutting wheel (e.g., on a Dremel tool). What model is it?
Realistically I suspect your best bet would be to get another one on, e.g.,
eBay or find a compatible 3rd party replacement (visit, e.g., compgeeks.com to
view some).
