Hi girls and guys :-)

I'm tempted with a promotion at Dell's store :

Dell Inspirion 9300 :
-- Intel centrino M750 1.86 GHz
-- 512 MB DDR2 SDRAM 533 MHz
-- screen : panoramic 17" UltraSharp™ WXGA+ (1440 x 900)
-- ATI X300 VIDEO CARD
-- 80 GB HD 7200 rpm

PRICE : 1300 euros

I wonder wether if it would be worth to buy 2 memory sticks of 1 GBytes
separately because Dell sell the option at 620 euros !
1 GB DDR2 PC4200 memory stick cost only 120 euros in a computer store...

Then here are my questions :

Is it possible to add DDR2 PC4200 memory sticks in a Dell Inspirion laptop ?

What do you think about this laptop ? (I would use it for homework i.e.
CAD programming in C++ and OpenGL).

Thanks in advance,

Regards

Gilles

According to the specifications page of my Dell Inspiron 9300, the unit has
a total capacity of 2 GB consisting of 2 modules of 1 GB each. My
particular configuration uses 512 MB of total RAM and utilizes the Intel
Pentium M processor. I can see where you might want some more room with
your RAM if you will be running CAD. I would also consider the 128 MB video
card as well. My 9300 is using the 64 MB ATI PCI Express x16 (ATI Mobility
Radeon X300) video card. I can run Far Cry with no problems at all.

The display is awesome! You wouldn't be sorry with this machine, in my
opinion. There certainly are more powerful laptops available, the ones
produced by Alien Ware come to mind, but as far as value for the money, I
don't think there is a better machine than the 9300.

Kevin and Brian : thanks for your comments !

I'm just effraid of the ATI Radeon X300 Graphics Card : it has poor 3D
performances, and it would make gaming impossible with recent games.

Nevertheless, it would be sufficient for CAD and OpenGL programming.

Maybe the brand-new Inspiron 9400 would be more interesting :
* NVidia GeForce 7800 GTX
* Centrino dual-core processors

Cheers

Finally, I ordered a DELL Inspiron 9400 with centrino dual core
processor, and nVidia 7800 GT graphics card.

I hope to enjoy it soon

Cheers
