Disk Cleanup provides the opportunity to delete temp files, however it offers
the following caveat: Temp files may be safely deleted if they haven't been
modified in over a week. I run disk cleanup everyday and am careful to
monitor the amount of space temp files are taking. I find that the number
changes from day to day. Hence, the scenario that my temp files have not
been modified in over a week is only a theoretical possibility at best. My
question is, "can I delete my temp files anyway?" Are there any risks in
deleting temp files at any time? Will my system become unstable? Sorry for
all the questions but one last one: Disk Cleanup says that
programs/applications create temp files and USUALLY eliminate them upon
closing. Obviously, this is not happening. Why then are temp files a
residual problem in Windows (I have XP; I don't know if this is still true in
Vista)? Thanks for any help.
