I took my laptop to Cuba. I plugged it in the 110 volt shaver outlet. The
light came on briefly each time I did it but then went out. I suspect the
voltage was okay but there were not enough amps. I then plugged it in the
220 room voltage. (My charger handles either voltage.) The light on the
charger came on normally but the computer itself is totally dead.
I've had four different theories advanced, none of which have helped.
Any advice would be appreciated.

There is nothing wrong with having nothing to say unless you insist on
saying it.

Repair will be uneconomical - buy a new laptop and don't be so silly with
the power next time.

Shaver sockets are for Shavers!

To be honest.. NO ONE here can tell you what is wrong with your Laptop .. we
can ONLY GUESS . and I'm sure you've already guessed the obviouse answers..

THE ONLY WAY to find out is to take it to a PC repair shop and have the
check it out .

We can guess Motherboard, or RAM or CPU or AC Adapter blew etc. But a shop
can tell you for SURE what is wrong. and HOW much it will cost to repair.
and wether it's worth repairing or not?

REMEMBER a DEAD LAPTOP still has VALUE.. People on EBAY will purchase your
keyboard, ac adapter, LCD, memory, etc. assuming it's not 8 years old.. even
them .. lol .

Good Luck

Frank

This is true.

This 'could' be true...or it might not, *IF* you know someone with a
similar laptop who could loan you his adapter. IMO, that would be the
most obvious faulty part. It could have sacrificed itself to protect
the laptop. After all, the laptop itself wasn't plugged into the
suspect mains, the supply was.

This is true, but my money would be on the power supply, which is an
easy diagnosis...no shop needed. In fact, an Ebay power supply might
even be cheaper than the shop minimum.

Even then it might be worth 'some' money; but the diagnosis will be
necessary in order to determine what is worth selling.
