This 'could' be true...or it might not, *IF* you know someone with a
similar laptop who could loan you his adapter. IMO, that would be the
most obvious faulty part. It could have sacrificed itself to protect
the laptop. After all, the laptop itself wasn't plugged into the
suspect mains, the supply was.

This is true, but my money would be on the power supply, which is an
easy diagnosis...no shop needed. In fact, an Ebay power supply might
even be cheaper than the shop minimum.

Even then it might be worth 'some' money; but the diagnosis will be
necessary in order to determine what is worth selling.
