I recently added a dvd writer to my old hp desktop computer which is running
on Windows XP. I can watch dvds but am unable to use the 'copy dvd' feature.
It seems my computer is running on 'PIO' mode instead of 'DMA' mode, and this
does not support the Nero 7 Express software that came with the dvd writer.
Any ideas on how to fix this problem would be great!

IDE ATA and ATAPI disks use PIO mode after multiple time-out or CRC errors
occur

some motherboard's bios have the "IDE drive strenght" feture. You can raise
up this setting and get less errors..

There are settings to enable DMA mode for the IDE drives in both the
motherboard BIOS and in Windows Device manager. It needs to be enabled in
both places. Also, if you don't have motherboard chipset drivers installed
the drive controllers and other devices might not be able to function
optimally.
