 Hi,
I can't seem to find current political boundaries (i.e. updated
Yugoslavia, etc.) in the public domain. We have an airspace simulation
tool and need to update the 2D boundaries underneath, and we need to be
able to redistribute this data to our users. Users are mostly gov't
aviation agencies around the world, but we do sell our product so I
won't argue that its not a commercial purpose (though we do not charge
extra for any of the base data).

In any case can anyone suggest where we might find current world bdrys
that can be redistributed, either free (w/ credits) or at a low cost??

Sure, shape would be great! We have ArcInfo & can convert using
scripts, no problem. Just can't find anything to export from VPF
(vmap0) to something useable. Would be exceeeeeeedlingly grateful for
assistance.
