I wonder if someone on the group could bring me up-to-date on the
current state of Vista MCE happenings, specifically:

Has anyone successfully built a diy CableCARD-compatible machine,
using e.g. the ATI TV Wonder Digital Cable Tuner? I see that these
can be purchased on eBay for around $100.

Can Vista support two digital cable tuners? Assuming a person has
obtained two cableCARDs of course.

Does Vista MCE further encode or compress the HDTV signal that comes
from the cable company, or is the stream stored (and played back) as-
is?

Here's the "biggie" in my mind: Do the video card and the TV both
have to be HDCP compliant in order to view full 1080p? I have an
older HDTV that does not have HDMI (only component-in), so I'm sure
it's not HDCP compliant; I wonder if I would even be able to view hi-
def on it from a Vista box.

Thanks!
John

no do it yourself box is possible. machines have to be certified by
Cable Labs and there is a special BIOS used in these machines.

other than that, if you buy a certified machines you can use two
tuners. monitor/TV and card have to be HDCP compliant to view in
high def.

Utterly frustrating.

this is a requirement of Cable Labs, not Microsoft who has to work
within their guidelines.
