I apologize as I know this has been covered, but I'm still confused. From
what I gather, MCE can not, even with the TV tuner, capture analog video. Is
that correct ? And if so, I'll need a peripheral video capture device with
it's accompanying software .
( Any recommendations ?) MCE might be a bit of overkill for my various
needs, so if the above is true, I may stay with XP Pro or home.

Thanks much,

Steve

I'm not sure about MCE as I haven't tried it, but your video capture
software, whatever comes with your card, should do the capture fine outside
MCE. I have Intervideo have no problem at all capturing from my vcr to the
harddrive,. Just do it from the software ,not MCE.

Well it can, but it is a PITA since you have to re-setup the tuning source
each time and then set it back to use the TV functions again. Unless you are
using a plain analog antenna, then I suppose you could just plug the
coax-out from the VCR into the tuner card and change to channel 3.

It also doesn't have the fine controls for adjusting the recording like many
stand-alone programs may have. That's why I didn't bother using it when I
needed to capture some old tapes; I just dropped out of MCE to the XP
interface and used the program that came with my tuner card.
