Hello,
I'm trying to copy a .mid file to my Pocket PC.
I'm running Windows Mobile 2003 and MS ActiveSynch 3.7.1.
I've brought .mp3 files over no problem, but everytime I try a .mid file, I
get the error
"Cannot copy myfile: access is denied."
"Make sure your mobile device has sufficient memory, that the file is not
set as read-only, and that you have permission to copy this file type".

All the manual says is:
Use activesync to copy a .wav file or .mid file to the /Windows/Rings folder
on your device.

Any suggestions??
Thanks!
Amber

Are you copying to a memory card? How big is the file? Have you tried
copying that file elsewhere (eg the desktop)?

I think I'm copying it directly to my PocketPC (in the \Windows\Rings
folder).
I've tried copying and pasting directly there...but it won't work.
I've tried adding it to my 'sync' list, then sync'ing - but that
doesn't work either (this is the method I use to move all my MP3
files).
I've tried mutliple .mid files - ranging from 1K to 1M. None work.
I downloaded these files from the net onto my laptop, and can move the
files around on my laptop no problem (and listen to them).
Any ideas?
Cheers,
Amber

Activesync has problems with larger files, but the smaller should be ok.
Have you tried copying using Windows file explorer once the pda is connected
rather than the activesync interface? Your pda should show as another drive
in Windows File Explorer.
Do you have a memory card/card reader on your pc? (Copy directly rather than
through as)
Or a file manager/explorer like Resco? (you could remove/rename the file
extender, then name it back once copied).
Or a zip program? zip the file, unzip it on your pda- there are free zip
programs available for your pda to unzip it once copied- Resco does it too
if you have that but it normally costs.

>> \windows\rings <<

if you are planning to use it as a ringtone, time to regroup.

If so, you are going to have to convert it to .wav or .wma format.

You still didn't post the filesize... we need all the info possible to help.

Finally, pop for a memory card and cardreader for your pc... use the
activesync connection to transfer files only if you enjoy waiting,
problems and irritation ;-)
