To connect a Media Center Computer to a DirectTV receiver, you need a Tuner
in the MCE machine that has S-Video or Composite Video input, and the right
and left audio inputs.
The tuner must also be Media Center compliant. Windows XP tuners are not
compliant for Media Center. The Spec on the tuner must say for Media Center.
You also must have the Microsoft Media Center Remote control and IR
transceiver.

The IR transceiver controls the DirectTV box via a IR 'bug' that is pasted
over the IR receiver in the DirectTV box.
The Video Card in the older computer may need upgrading, TV requires a
minimum of 128 Megabytes of Video Memory and a pretty fast speed, You have
to update the video at 60 fields per second. (30 whole frames per second).
Yes, the technology works.
