I have backed up my Pocket PC for year. Then for a year I didn't

Where has conversion from Word (doc) files to PocketWord (pwd) gone?
Where has conversion from pwd to doc gone?

I can find *no* references to doc files in active sync 4.1 and no
reference to pwd in active sync.

In file conversion properties [Desktop to Device] there is no mention
of Word (doc).
In file conversion properties [Device to Desktop] there is no mention
of Word (doc) only Rich Text Format (rtf).

What gives?????

Thank you,
dbuchanan

Hi,

If you install ActiveSync 4.1 over an older version like 3.8, then it will
show the missing options you are looking.

Hi Raj,

No ActiveSinc 4.1 was installed on a fresh newly formatted machine
(Windows Server 2003). However the PocketPC was using a previous
versions - probably ActiveSync 3.7.

What do you suggest for a remedy?

Hi,

WM 5.0 has full native file support and it does not need conversion through
ActiveSync. Therefore the convertors are not installed in the ActiveSync 4.x
setup.

The convertors are installed by older versions of ActiveSync on the desktop.
So if you really need it, then you will need uninstall the current version,
remove rapi.dll and ceutil.dll from the System32 folder and then install the
older version. After that proceed to install 4.1.

Raj,

I'm a little confused.

First yous said that installing 4.1 over an older versioin will cause
the problem;

>If you install ActiveSync 4.1 over an older version like 3.8, then it will
>show the missing options you are looking.

Then you suggest installing 4.1 over an older version to solve the
problem;

> ...then install the older version. After that proceed to install 4.1.

What am I missing??

I have these versions.

3.1
3.7
3.8

After your instructions on completely removing 4.1 which version should
I install before installing 4.1 again?

Thank you,
dbuchanan
