Contacts on WM5.0 smartphone -- can't select which ones ERE 02-18-2006

I've been using Windows Mobile 2003 on my smartphone, and was able to select
which categories of Contacts to syncronize from Microsoft Outlook. I've
just moved to WM5.0 on my smartphone, and now it just downloads ALL my
contacts. When I right click on Contacts in ActiveSync, "Settings..." is
greyed out. Is there some way I can select which contacts to syncronize?
I'm using ActiveSync 4.1

Thanks,
Dan

Nope. That feature is gone in AS4.x Have to use that for WM5 though.

Thanks Sven,

I'm sorry to hear that feature's currently gone. I assume it's going to be
restored in AS4.2. To me that's a huge defect. It seems to me it's
probably a very common thing to want only a small subset of your contacts on
your mobile device.

What is the suggested work-around until this is fixed? Clearly I can't
delete all the unwanted contacts each time I grab my cell phone out of the
cradle on my way out the door. What were they thinking?

Thanks,
Dan

You got me about what they were thinking. Only two work arounds I could
imagine. One is to see if one of the AS enhancements/replacements like
Intellisync can help. I don't even know if they have support for WM5 yet
though. The second is to take advantage of an issue that folks have been
wanting to have fixed for some time. AS still doesn't sync subfolders. You
could make a folder in contacts and put everything in there you don't want
to sync. Anything remaining in the root of contacts does get sync'd. If that
is your primary list, might even clean up the desktop a bit. Best I can
offer. Don't hold your breath on a fix, i.e. function restoral. I don't have
any special insight, just a gut feel.
